Whale of a Run



The 40th Annual Whale of a Run is an official Whaling Days Festival event. All proceeds and donations benefit Meals on Wheels Kitsap.


Come celebrate the 40th Annual Whale of a Run on Saturday, July 30, 2022 in Silverdale, Washington. Featured events include:

  • 4-mile race (gun start with chip-timed finish)

  • 1-mile run/walk (gun start with chip-timed finish)

  • Kids dashes

  • Special Olympics dashes

EVENT: 4-MILE RACE

COURSE: Start at the intersection of Kitsap Mall Boulevard and Silverdale Way, prior to the parade. Run along Silverdale Way parade route, continuing on Newberry Hill Road under overpass to Provost Road. Turn right and proceed to Anderson Hill Road. Turn right at Anderson Hill Road and follow to Silverdale Way. Turn left and finish at Silverdale Antiques in front of parade review stand. Course closes at 9:20am. AWARDS: Plaques, hats and whales to the first male and female finishers overall. Hats and whales to division winners. (One award per runner.) Distinctive medals to first 400 finishers. EVENT: 1-MILE RUN/WALK

COURSE: Start on Silverdale Way in front of the Poplars Great Clips. Run parade route along Silverdale Way to Carlton Avenue. Turn left and proceed to Linder Way. Stay on Linder Way back to Silverdale Way. Turn right and finish at Silverdale Antiques in front of parade review stand. Course closes at 9:10am. AWARDS: Plaques, hats and whales to the first male and female finishers overall. Hats and whales to division winners. (One award per runner.) Distinctive medals to first 200 finishers. Start Time: 8:25am PDT End Time: 9:10am PDT Price: $15.00 Race Fee + $1.90 SignUp Fee Registration: Ends July 25, 2022 at 11:59pm PDT

EVENT: KIDS DASHES

LOCATION: On Silverdale Way at the parade review stand in front of Silverdale Antiques. AWARDS: Special ribbon and whales to all Kids Dash participants. Start Time: 9:10am PDT End Time: 9:40am PDT Price: $5.00 Race Fee + $1.30 SignUp Fee Registration: Ends July 25, 2022 at 11:59pm PDT

EVENT: SPECIAL OLYMPICS DASHES

LOCATION: On Silverdale Way at the parade review stand in front of Silverdale Antiques.

Entry Fees

  • Pre-registration--$20 (4-mile), $15 (1-mile), $5 (kids dashes), Free (Special Olympics dashes)

  • Day of Race--$25 (4-mile), $20 (1-mile), $5 (kids dashes), Free (Special Olympics dashes)

T-shirts

  • Commemorative 40th Anniversary t-shirts available for additional $15 each. Sizes adult S-3X and child M-XL. T-shirts guaranteed for entries received by July 5, 2022. Limited supply also available on race day.

Race Packet Pick-up & Registration

  • Early packet pick-up and in-person registration on Friday, July 29 from 4:00-7:00pm at Silverdale United Methodist Church parking lot.

  • Day of race packet pick-up and in-person registration from 6:45-8:15am at Silverdale United Methodist Church parking lot.


Refreshments

  • Variety of fresh fruit, water and special treats will be provided by local businesses at the Finish Line.


Facilities

  • Restrooms and water available at registration and finish line.

  • Awards ceremony and random prize drawing will begin after the Kids and Special Olympics Dashes. Great gifts from local businesses are up for grabs. Prize winners must be present to win.

Can I run with my dog? Yes, if your dog is leashed. Can I run pushing a baby stroller? Yes! Where can I signup? Online (click on the Whale of a Run LOGO above) Does it cost more to register on the day of the race? Yes, an extra $5.00 for the 4-mile foot race and the 1-mile run/walk. Do you have family rates? No. Where does the run start? The 4-mile run starts at the corner of Silverdale Way and Kitsap Mall Blvd. the 1-mile run/walk starts on Silverdale Way in front of the Poplars Great Clips. Is it hilly? No for the 1-mile run/walk. The 4-mile race is a challenging course with a fast finish. Where is the finish? Silverdale Antiques in front of parade reviewing stand on Silverdale Way. What time do the runs start? 4-mile at 8:15 am 1-mile at 8:25 am Kids Dashes at 9:10 am Special Olympics Dashes at 9:15 am What time are the awards? Begins immediately after the run. Is there a parade/festival? Yes. Parade starts at 10:00 a.m. Whaling Days Festival is July 29-31 at the Silverdale Waterfront Park. Visit the Whaling Days website for more information. Where can I park? There is ample parking throughout the area, however, please consider the parade's route and start time. Is there water along the course? Yes, on the 4-mile route at 2-3/4 mile. Can I walk the races? Yes, but please keep in mind that the 4-mile course will close at 9:20 a.m.
