Retirement and ReNewal of the Path Ahead

By Forrest Arnold

It was pretty scary & alarming to receive the news that my skin cancer had migrated to become tumors in my head and lungs. I went from being an athletic "healthy guy" to a Stage 4 cancer guy in one season.

How very lucky we were to find our way to Fred Hutch Cancer Clinic and their very experienced Team of CareGivers.

The cancer seemed clearly to have originated during my 103 Navy combat missions in Vietnam during 1972 when our ship loitered close to the Vietnam coast for 7 months.

And it was amazingly helpful to learn about the immunotherapy they use that helps one's own immune system rise up to fight the unwanted spread of disease. I was uniquely lucky that my variety of melanoma could respond so well to the treatment...and in about 6 months, the top Doctor in the clinic called me to report "You are cancer free!"  Great news!

My wonderful wife and I both were so touched & relieved to be in this Seattle care area. And all this convinced me to begin writing about the best ideas we see that help people thrive after leaving their work career.

From regimens that help enhance health & vitality and on to bring our Life Purpose more clearly into view. Thoughtful planning about money & security to match my new longevity (hopefully for many years!) And how important friends are and others who have braved cancer like I had endured.

There is so much to do in this life---and it seems that Re-Newal is possible after Retirement --- especially in a vibrant, wonderful area like Seattle.

Let's all thrive after working so hard through the years!!

We'd be glad to talk over your challenges.
